How a WhatsApp link works
WhatsApp publishes a click-to-chat format: wa.me followed by your number in international format without the plus sign, spaces or dashes, and an optional pre-filled message after ?text=. Tapping the link on a phone opens WhatsApp with your chat ready; on a computer it opens WhatsApp Web or the desktop app. The number does not need to be saved in the contacts, which is the whole point.
Where to put the link and the QR code
- Website and landing pages: a "Chat on WhatsApp" button converts better than a contact form for many local businesses.
- Instagram and TikTok bios, Facebook pages and Google Business Profile.
- Email signatures, invoices and quotes, so a question turns into a conversation.
- Ads: Meta and Google both accept a WhatsApp link as the destination, and the pre-filled message tells you which ad the person came from.

Tips for the pre-filled message
The message is what the customer sends, so write it from their side: "Hi, I would like to book a table for..." or "Hello, I am interested in the 2-bedroom apartment". Use a different message per placement ("I saw your Instagram", "I scanned the code on the receipt") and you will know where each conversation comes from without any tracking tool. Keep it under 100 characters: people edit long messages or delete them.

Which number format do I need?

Can I add a pre-filled message?

How do I make a WhatsApp QR code?
