Claude Cowork: what it is and how a business puts it to work.

What Claude Cowork is

Claude has three ways of working: chat, where you ask and it answers; Claude Code, for developers; and Cowork, where you assign a job. In Cowork you point Claude at a folder or a connected tool (Google Drive, Slack, email, your calendar, other apps through connectors), describe the outcome you want, and it plans and executes the steps: reading documents, writing files, using the plugins you have installed. Anthropic ships it in the Claude desktop app for paid plans, with web and mobile versions in beta.

The difference from a chatbot is persistence. A Cowork task can run for a long time, touch many files, and be scheduled to repeat every day or every week without you opening the app.

What it costs

Cowork is not sold separately. Anthropic includes it in the paid plans, and its usage shares the same limits as the rest of your plan:

For a small business, one Pro seat is enough to test it. Heavy daily tasks push you towards Max or a Team seat, because Cowork tasks are among the heaviest things Claude does and they count against the same usage limit as your chats.

What it does well for a small business

• Daily briefings: a summary of yesterday's Slack messages, emails or calendar, delivered every morning.
• Weekly reports: numbers pulled from Google Drive, spreadsheets or connected tools into a formatted document.
• Recurring research: a competitor, a topic or a market tracked on a cadence.
• File organisation: a folder sorted, cleaned or processed on a schedule.
• Team updates: status summaries generated from your project tool.
• Screening and shortlists: applications, briefs or documents read against your criteria, with a shortlist and the reasons.

How ContentJet runs creator hiring on it

ContentJet, a content agency, hires creators continuously, and that work used to run on the team’s time. How to set it up

• Install the Claude desktop app and sign in with a paid plan.
• Connect the tools the task needs (Drive, Slack, email, calendar) through connectors, and install the plugins you want.
• Create a project for the recurring work, write the instructions once, and test on a small batch.
• Schedule it if it repeats. Scheduled tasks run remotely on your cadence, even with the computer closed, using connected tools and files saved to your Claude account; a task that needs local files runs locally instead.
• Keep a person on the output for the first weeks, then widen the scope. Give it access only to the folders and tools the task needs, which is also Anthropic’s own safety guidance.

Where it stops, and what an agency adds

Cowork works inside Claude's world: your files, its connectors and plugins. It does not answer your phone, reply to customers on WhatsApp, or score and route leads in a CRM.
